Support Markdown syntax for simple formatting

I've recently started using Markdown for quick HTML content creation. It is much faster than typing HTML tags. I learned the basics using the Markdown tutorial found here: http://markdowntutorial.com. I think this could really speed up simple formatting.

No, no, no. Not markdown, which limits the tool to tech-minded folks! Use an RTF menu bar.

Amol Sarva talked about this on the Markdown blog http://blog.knotable.com/

"A lot of web apps make you use markdown for rich text, which is, politely, a programmer’s idea of a great rich text editing solution. Why would anyone else want to learn code to italicize some letters? Programmers are great but they are masochists by nature."

And you can save space by having that RTF menu bar appear only when you click a little icon in the corner. Maybe it looks like a painter's palette.
